My name is Rodney French. I have been a part of Oklahoma Jail and Prison Ministries since 2002, when Chaplain Argyl Dick invited me to be a part of the ministry. I served as a chaplain at Grady County Detention Center for five years and Union City Juvenile Center for three and a half years. I have been the Associate Chaplain to the juvenile unit at Oklahoma County Jail in Oklahoma City for ten years. I enjoy spending time with the juveniles, no matter how they may act. I minister to other inmates when I am not with the juveniles.
I have been at the Carver Center since 2004, when Chaplain Don Duncan assigned me there during the Billy Graham prison ministry in 2003. I was asked to come back to Carver by Reggie Tarver, but declined. In 2004, God impressed me to go back to Carver and I continue to go there regularly.
I take men and women to church from Oklahoma Halfway House and Center Point, both are Department of Corrections’ facilities, on Sundays to the Bridge Church in Mustang. I was asked to be Chaplain at Canadian County Detention Center by Chaplain Dick, in May 2010 and am so blessed to serve there, with broad areas of responsibility.
I asked Christ into my life in May 1986, because of a man by the name of Walter Ethridge of Christian Business Men’s Connection ministry, who invited me to his home at 5:30 in the morning and read Galatians 5 to me. I wanted the joy and peace he was talking about. I am still very much a part of CBMC and all the men there are my prayer partners. Dr. Herman Reece, along with Walter Ethridge, helped disciple me in my early days. When Walter moved, Daryl Hay continued my discipleship. Dr. Herman Reece and Daryl Hay have been a constant support to me ever since.
Everyone needs a spiritual Dad and Granddad. I had a drinking problem till I was thirty years old and spent time in jail. A close friend of mine died as the result of drinking. By the grace of God, I was set free from this addiction.
I was adopted when I was six weeks old and my father committed suicide when I was thirteen. I spent time in the Air Force. I have operated a print shop in Tuttle for several years. I have been all over the world as a missionary. I close my print shop on Monday mornings so I can minister at Canadian County Jail, and all day Friday to minister at Oklahoma County Detention Center. I also minister at the Carver Center and Canadian County Jail in the evenings. I believe in what I do and live to serve the Lord. I am blessed with two wonderful children who are both college graduates.
