It is a new season!
“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (New International Version 1984, Lamentations 3:22-23).
Football season has kicked off and every team starts the year undefeated. School has started and everyone is dealing with a new year of learning, growing and great possibilities. Ok, some do struggle with new things, but that is where God stretches our faith.
A new season and a new school year are times to think about making a new beginning. There are other times that can be identified as an opportunity for a new beginning. The approach of fall brings all kinds of new events that can challenge and encourage.
As OJPM executive chaplain, two events that I think and pray about are our fall volunteer appreciation banquet and our fall chaplain training. Our annual volunteer appreciation banquet will be held Friday, September 21st at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 301 N. E. 27th, Moore, Oklahoma. See RSVP information in insert box below. Each attendee will receive our newest challenge coin that highlights our vision to have ministry in every county jail. There will also be inspirational stories of how OJPM is transforming people on both sides of the bars.
Our keynote speaker for the banquet is Alan Quigley, mobilization team leader of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (BGCO). Alan is the former evangelism director for the BGCO and currently leads the team that includes BGCO chaplains and financial support for OJPM. Alan has a heart for evangelism and is a great friend of OJPM.
Our fall chaplain training will be held Saturday, October 13th from 8:00 a.m. to Noon at Genesis Church, 623 N Broadway Ave., Suite A, Moore, Oklahoma. One of the key reasons sheriffs invite OJPM into their county jails is because of the training we provide.
In addition to the basic reviews and updates from Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Chaplain Don Duncan and OJPM Senior Chaplain Jorge Vara we will have special presentations from current and future OJPM volunteers Kenneth Sherill, pastor of Greater New Zion Baptist, Oklahoma City and Brad Bertrand, president and founder of Bertrand Retirement Solutions, Oklahoma City.
You and I can face each new day, new challenge and new opportunity because God’s “compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is [His] faithfulness!”
