“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this? . . . when this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish” (New International Version, 1984, Esther 4:14, 16b).
The New York Times headline read, “U.N. Warns of ‘Dire’ Effects of Coronavirus, ‘Greatest Test’ Since WWII.” That remains to be seen, but this COVID-19 pandemic is challenging our country and world like we have not seen in a long time.
Some are saying that our society will be permanently changed. Others are saying that prophecy is being fulfilled. I don’t know about that, but I do know this; God is on His throne and has a mission for you to carry out for His glory, for ministry to the nations and for His kingdom’s advancement.
I gathered with a group of men via the Internet last week. They asked for praise reports and I couldn’t wait to brag about how faithful God has been through our OJPM family and that because of your generosity we are able to assure our paid staff (four full-time, two part-time and 11 partial-time) that they will continue to be paid during this forced quarantine. Some are working from home and some are on emergency call. All are sensitive to new opportunities the Holy Spirit opens.
This is a historic time. There are many difficulties and even tragedies happening across our state, country and world. However, I challenge you to not miss this opportunity for spiritual growth and personal revival. Pivot is the word that the Lord has been brought to my mind. How can we pivot our evangelism during this time?
More than ever, people are watching you to see Christ and the reality of your relationship with Him. Scripture reading, prayer, fasting, journaling, solitude, giving, simplicity are wonderful spiritual disciplines that should not be unfamiliar to us.
Fresh surrender and repentance come out of allowing God’s Holy Spirit to search our hearts and minds with the truth of His Word. There is no substitute for time and attention in this journey. We now have plenty of time. Let us give our attention to the Lord and have the same mind as Mordecai and Esther.
“If we perish, we perish!”
Please note that we have rescheduled our Spring Luncheon from May 5th to Thursday, July 9th. Everything else about the function will remain the same for our now inaugural Summer Luncheon.
